Richard J. Herrick, President
Mr. Herrick joined the New York State Health Facilities Association in April 2002 as President and CEO of NYSHFA and President of the Foundation for Quality Care. Since then he has served on several State advisory groups most recently being invited to participate on the NYS Department of Health’s Long Term Care Restructuring Initiative Advisory Council. At the national level, Mr. Herrick has served on the American Health Care Association Board of Directors, is a member of the Council of States and serves on the Budget and Finance Committee. Prior to joining NYSHFA, Mr. Herrick spent seven years as the President and COO of Wingate Health Care, Inc., which during his tenure, operated seven nursing facilities in Massachusetts and three in
New York
State . He also served as Executive Vice President of the Ivey Companies, which operated three nursing facilities and a pharmacy in
Massachusetts . In addition, to his Association and over 20 years of health care management and operations experience, Mr. Herrick is active on the Boards of Berkshire Healthcare Systems (19 skilled nursing facilities) and Berkshire Retirement Home. He is Past Chairman of the Board of the Massachusetts Extended Care Federation.
Richard S. Patterson, Jr., Executive Director
Mr. Patterson joined the New York Health Facilities Association in April of 2007, as Senior Director of Business Development and the Executive Director for the Foundation for Quality Care. Mr. Patterson has over 35 years of health are experience which includes 25 years in the long term care industry. He began his career at
Fairview
Hospital in western
Massachusetts as Director of Respiratory Care Services. He then went to work for The Ivey Companies (Willowood Nursing & Rehab Centers), as Vice President of Special Services were he developed one of the first long term care ventilator programs in a skilled nursing center in Massachusetts. After leaving the Ivey Companies, Mr. Patterson joined Apple Health Care in Avon Connecticut (which operated 23 skilled nursing facilities) where he was the Vice President of Managed Care Services, overseeing that organizations managed care programs, census management and marketing. He also worked for Wingate Health Care. During his tenure at Wingate he served as Corporate Director of Program Development; Regional Director of Marketing; Regional Manager of Operations and Vice President of Specialty Programs. Prior to joining NYSHFA / FQC he worked for Patterson Medical Repairs, Inc., a multi-state medical equipment rental / repair and oxygen company where he was Vice President of Marketing and Development.
Gayle G. Farman, MPA, Senior Director of Resource Development
Ms. Farman was appointed the Senior Director of Resource Development for the Foundation for Quality Care in July of 2010. Ms. Farman has more than 20 years of experience in non-profit leadership, grants development, health care, developmental disabilities, long-term care, and workforce education and training programs. Prior to joining the Foundation, Ms. Farman was the Director of Grants and Demonstrations for Community Health Care Services Foundation, Inc., which is an affiliate of New York State Association of Health Care Providers. Ms. Farman formerly served as the Director of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Institute, Executive Director of the NYS Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare, and as the Supervisor of Consultation and Diagnostic Services, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Schneider Children’s Hospital.
Ms. Farman holds a Masters in Public Administration (Health Care Administration) from
Long Island
University and a Bachelors of Arts in Public Affairs from State University of New York at
Albany . She serves on the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the Center for Disability Services, NYS Diabetes Task Force, Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center (Vice President of the Board), and is a member of the American Association of Grant Professionals.
