Program Overview:
This Administrator Leadership Course (ALC) program has been modeled after the Long Term Care Leadership Institute (LI), but will be focused specifically for newer Licensed Nursing Home Administrators (LNHA). The course will provide eight full days of education to further develop new administrators’ practical skills and tools to effectively and efficiently lead the day to day operations of a skilled nursing facility. It will provide the opportunity to learn or enhance skills, fine tune existing knowledge, explore value based leadership, and operationalize the skills and competencies that are needed to be a successful LNHA. The course has been developed with assistance of an advisory task force made up of experts from the academia, skilled nursing facilities, the ACHCA and consultants. Instructors for this course have been selected based on their topical expertise. This course is being supported by The Foundation for Quality Care and NYSHFA.
Who
The Administrator Leadership Course is designed for LNHA who have been in practice 5 years or less or those wanting to increase their knowledge is the course content offered. The course is open to all LNHAs currently in practice.
When and Where
Participants must attend all sessions to complete the course.

Overall Program Objectives
Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:
- Identify and enhance the competencies needed to be and effective LNHA;
- Articulate the standards of care and scope of practice that guides of the variety of health care professionals that work in SNF;
- Apply human resource principals into practice
- Understand the 1987 Omnibus Reconciliation Act (OBRA) initiative along with State and Federal Regulations guiding the care of SNF residents;
- Prepare for and respond to the federal survey process;
- Evaluate current systems to manage Medicare and Medicaid Reimbursement;
- Identify key aspects of financial management of a SNF;
- Facilitate an effective Quality Improvement process;
- Explore the variety of Web Based resources;
- Discuss current legal issues related to SNF
