The Leadership Institute: is comprised of courses for new or aspiring leaders who work in skilled nursing facilities. The target audiences are administrators and nurses.
Administrator Course:
This course is for new LNHA to enhance their skills as they apply their knowledge into the overall management of a skilled nursing facility. A pilot course was conducted with an evaluation process. Revisions were made and the ongoing formal course continues to be implemented once a year.
Nurse Leadership Institute:
This section of the Leadership Institute is comprised of three courses for nurses in leadership roles who work in skilled nursing facilities.
NLI- is an 8 week course for new Directors of Nursing or potential Directors of Nursing who work in skilled nursing facilities. This course is basic formal orientation using systems theory to guide their service leadership.
Nurse Educator Course: is a 4 day workshop style course for instructors and educators who work in skilled nursing facilities. This course utilizes adult learning principles and computer technology to enhance their current educational practices.
First Line Manager Course: is an 8 week course designed to teach and enhance supervisory and management skills of nurses who work in skilled nursing facilities.
The Leadership Institute is funded by grants from U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Nurse Education, Practice and Retention (NEPR) grants, and New York State Department of Health Workforce Retaining Initiative (HWRI).
